About Guacira Naves & The Online Strategy House
At THE ONLINE STRATEGY HOUSE, we develop and implement holistic online marketing strategies – where all Internet marketing pieces come together. We design and implement online strategies according to your short, medium and long term goals – and to fit your budget.
I don’t believe that any specific online marketing tactic – be it social media, search engine optimization, email newsletters or pay-per-click campaigns – is the holy grail of an online marketing campaign. Clients’ needs change according to their budget and goals – and as such, they call for distinct plans, with distinct mixes.
That’s where I come in: I’ve seen it all, and have done it all: search engine optimization, social media plans, email campaigns, pay-per-click, affiliate marketing – thanks to 19 years of experience with the Internet and 13 years of experience with online marketing.
Let’s talk about how I can help your online marketing efforts. You can also find me on Twitter and through good old email (g@onlinestrategy.ca)
NOW, TO WHERE IT ALL BEGAN…
My first Internet gig was in 1991, as a researcher at Escola do Futuro (“School of the Future”). “Escola do Futuro” is a prominent research hub based in the University of São Paulo, Brazil, and focuses on studying new information and communication technologies as they may be applied to educational purposes. I worked under the tutelage of Prof. Fredric Litto for two years, and was involved in launching and maintaining a BBS (Bulletin Board Service). Before there were forums, blogs and Webmasters, there were BBSs and Sysops.
One of my fondest recollections of that time is of a class by Dr. Litto, where we were assigned to prepare a project about new technologies. I chose to present on hyperlinks. Off I went to the class armed with large sheets of paper illustrating how someone would be able to click on a hyperlinked word, which would then land onto another site expounding on the subject of that word. What was great about it was that the technology was barely accessible, and the ideas presented were all based on hypothetical situations.
I had two email addresses at the time. I can’t remember what they were, but do remember that one of them had a BITNET extension. It might have been something along the lines of gmnaves@bitnet.usp.br.
My ambition at the time was to work in some sort of Internet magazine about environmental topics. Only thing was… there wasn’t such a thing as an online magazine. Even the technology that would enable that to actually happen only came years later, through the advent of Web browsers like Netscape.
At the same time, I realized that my interest was in marketing, and not Radio & TV. I transferred my credits to the advertising program. But soon after, I relocated to Canada.
As soon as I was able to work in my new home (Montreal), I got back to my roots, so to speak – and into the Internet field. By that point, it was viable to join my two interests – marketing and Internet – and I haven’t stopped since.
Fast forward 19 years, and I went from working with BBSs in 1991, to developing holistic online marketing strategies. I couldn’t see myself doing anything else.
Happy browsing. Get in contact if you feel so compelled! You can find me on Twitter (@OnlineStrategy). And thanks for spending your precious time on this site. I don’t take it for granted.
